This Signet Ring Has A Tiny OLED Screen Playing The Matrix

Daniel Idle, a UK-based product designer, builds wearables that blur the line between jewelry and gadget — and his latest piece swaps a signet ring’s flat face for a working OLED screen looping the green falling-code animation from The Matrix.

What They Built

The Digital Rain Ring is a sterling-silver-plated signet ring with a mini OLED display embedded where a crest or monogram would normally sit, continuously playing a scrolling cascade of glyphs in the style of the Matrix’s iconic digital rain. It’s part of a small lineup of wearable-electronics pieces Idle put out in 2026, alongside a set of retail-security-tag-inspired rings and a 3D-printed phone case with a working terrarium built into it.

How They Did It

Idle hasn’t published a teardown or bill of materials for the ring the way he has for some of his other projects, so the build specifics — display driver, battery, and how it’s sealed against a ring’s day-to-day wear — aren’t public yet. What is clear from the demo footage on his site is that the screen reads as a normal signet face at a glance, only revealing the animation on a second look, which is the kind of detail that takes real iteration to land in a piece this size.
