Ollee Watch's Biggest Software Update Yet Is Almost Here, And Notifications Are Coming

The Ollee Watch — a drop-in mainboard replacement that turns a Casio F-91W into a Bluetooth smartwatch — has been shipping for a while, but the software side of the project is about to get significantly more interesting. The team has posted a roadmap update covering a Q2 firmware release due this week and three substantial features planned for the rest of 2026.

What’s in the Update

The Spring/Q2 2026 release is the immediate news: new watch faces, configuration options, and additions to the companion app. Testing ran longer than expected, which is a reasonable trade when the alternative is shipping something half-baked to a community that’s been asking for specific features. No detailed changelog yet, but the team says it’ll be public in about a week.

What’s on the Roadmap

Beyond the near-term release, three larger features are in progress — in no particular priority order:

Notifications are the most requested addition by a clear margin, and also the hardest engineering problem. Cross-platform push notifications on iOS and Android that don’t kill a watch’s battery life while still behaving usefully is a genuinely tricky design constraint, not just a software checkbox. The team is working through what that interaction model looks like, and music controls and find-my-phone are both being scoped alongside it.

Activity tracking improvements are next — accuracy fixes to the step counter first, then a broader set of fitness metrics (distance, calories, sleep tracking). The groundwork on the accuracy problem is already underway, with the challenge being tightening the algorithm without eating into the battery life advantage that makes the Ollee Watch worth wearing every day.

Ollee Forge is the biggest item. This is a third-party app platform for the watch — a widget framework and execution environment that would let developers build and distribute their own faces and functionality on top of the Ollee hardware. The team describes the underlying platform and execution model as “looking very promising,” which is modest language for something that would make the F-91W mod substantially more extensible than it already is.
